ThoughtWorks Quarterly Briefings
Business Architecture Foundations of IT
Manchester - 16th Feb 18.00 | London - 19th Feb 08.00
In this briefing, Ian discusses how our models of what the business does and what it's trying to achieve influence the progress of large software initiatives. He describes a number of practices and activities that together create a useful representation of a firm's operating model--one that can be used to identify, prioritise and plan strategic IT investments.
Ian has advised many clients faced with the twin problems of high operating costs and lack of business agility arising from past architectural choices and the ad hoc growth of their systems estate. This involves modelling business capabilities, identifying projects that address capability shortcomings, and advising on the technical and architectural strategies necessary to sustain a multi-project initiative--allowing an organisation to get started, and make changes in an incremental, sustainable fashion.
This talk is all about what happens before the first line of code is written, about how we can create the foundations for success. The briefing draws on Ian's recent experience with clients from a range of industries, including communications and media, entertainment, financial services, and oil and gas and is of interest to business and technology leaders alike.
